The Dachshund Rescue Web Page Read Me
This read me has been prepared to help you take full advantage of The Dachshund Rescue Web Page so you can re-home your dachshund. Please read it carefully and ensure you understand the section that applies to your situation before proceeding.
While I've tried to be as complete as possible with the following hints and tips, please know that you can contact me any time to answer any questions you may have.
All Users
Privacy Policy: There is no privacy - All information you submit for appearance on the Dachshund Rescue Web Page is public.
All content on this website can be viewed by anyone, registered or not. No one is required to register in order to view the listings which appear on this website. No one is required to register to respond to any listing on this website. But, if you wish to submit information to appear on this website, registration is required.
No, we don't collect and sell email addresses. The registration requirement is to ensure that the site does not get overrun by "spambots" submitting spam listings.
Registration is simplicity itself. Simply click the "Create new account" link on the left. On the resulting page, provide the information requested and your login information will be emailed to you automatically. Once you've received your confirmation email, you'll be able to log in and create your listing. If you don't see the confirmation email in your inbox within a reasonable period of time, check your spam folder to see if it's there. (it probably will be, since it's auto-generated)
Pet Owners
Once you have received your registration confirmation email, to submit your dachshunds information, click on the new link that says "List a Dachshund on this website". This link only appears once you have registered and are logged in. You will be taken to the submission form to add your pets information to the website. Please note that the fields marked with a red asterisk are mandatory. Don't miss the very last field, which asks for the animals adoption fee.
Ignore the "Photo" section on the submission page if you are going to "preview your post". This is due to a bug that I've been unable to squash. Click the "Preview" button and on the resulting page, make any edits to your text that you wish to. Here, you can choose a photo to upload with your listing. Once you are satisfied with your listing, click the "Submit" button and your photo will be uploaded to our server and your listing will be published.
Please note that if you choose to "Preview" a second time, you will need to reselect the picture to go with the listing. Also, the photo never shows up in the "preview" — only the text portion of your listing.
Critical: Ensure that you include an email address in your listing, especially if you have chosen not to include a telephone contact. If you include a web address in your listing, please include the "http://" at the beginning, such as "http://www.someplace.com".
Your listing will appear on the website for a period of 30 days, at which time it will automatically be removed. You may edit or delete it at any time by simply logging in again and finding your listing, clicking the "edit" tab and either pressing the "Delete" button, or by making your changes and clicking the "Preview" button. You have full control over your listing at all times.
If your animal is "Special Needs" (e.g. in a cart, blind, deaf, etc.) or is over 10 years of age, please contact me at so that I may remove the time limit on your listings expiration. Be aware that I do follow up on these "extended" listings and will remove a listing if I do not receive a timely response to my follow-up inquiry.
To edit or remove your listing: Log in as usual. All of your listed animals should appear at the top of the right hand sidebar on the home page. If your dog is not listed, or if you cannot log in, that means that the listing has expired and you will need to contact me to reactivate your user account and re-publish the original listing. This is, of course, only necessary if you need the listing extended. If your intention was to delete the listing, you do not need to contact me, as it happened automatically already.
Click on the name that represents your listing and on the resulting page, click the "edit" tab. At the bottom of that page, there are buttons for "Preview" (if you are editing) or "Delete" (if you wish to remove the listing altogether). Alternatively, you can also navigate to your animals listing through the "Adoptable Dachshunds" link in the left sidebar.
Rescue Representatives
Everything above applies to your animal listings as well, but you will also be able to submit specific contact information for our "Rescue Contacts" page. Please write to me with proof of your rescue affiliation, as well as your site user ID and I will make the necessary adjustments to your account. Once these changes have been made, you'll see a new menu item for this. As a side benefit, your listings will not expire automatically. Of course, this also means that I need to rely on you to ensure that your listings are properly managed.
