I Win! (I hope)

After my last experience trying to purchase a property for myself and the dogs in my care, I think I've finally found a place that will work. I hope so, because I accepted the sellers counter offer today.

For those of you who don't know, I purchased a piece of "raw land" some years ago. The intention was to build a small home and sanctuary for the "unwanted" dogs that I have chosen to help. The old saying that "no good deed goes unpunished" certainly proved true. After prepping the lot for construction, I was told that no permits would be issued due to the condition of the roadway. After fighting with the city for over a year, I finally had everything in place to begin my work, but the experience had so soured me on that lot that I knew there was no way I could ever be happy there. Fortunately, my work had put the lot into a condition that I could sell it in good conscious, knowing that whomever purchased it would not have the headaches I did.

In all, I lost a little over twelve thousand dollars. Personal dollars. Not one penny of the money designated for the rescues needs was ever in danger.

Fast forward to today - I made an offer for another piece of "raw land". This one is different from the last one, though. This one has a (barely) habitable structure on it. At some point in the future, I will be able to build on it. It's going to need work (LOTS of work) to make it secure for the dogs, so I won't be able to move to it immediately.

But it can be lived in while planning for the future. Something not possible with my last purchase.

I'm more optimistic now than I ever have been about the future of my personal rescue activities.

Wish me luck!

Benny

P.S. - the image below is one I hope to have made into a sign for my front gate. I've requested permission from the copyright holder of the "senior wieners" graphics for their use. The DRWP logo, of course, is mine to use as I see fit.

Benny,
After reading your Sanctuary Stories, and bawling my eyes out, there is NO doubt in my mind that you WILL get your "Retirement Home for Senior Wieners"... Hi Benny, I'm Norman's

Hi Benny,
I'm Norman's mom.
I'm excited to hear about your new piece of property. I know it will be wonderful. I like your sign idea.
I had some news about Norman. He is wonderful. He loves his brother, Buddy (our 12 year old red doxie). Norman does not want to go anywhere without Buddy.
He loves to sit in my lap at night. We just have a "luv fest". He kisses, I kiss.
The other night, I was talking to him about how glad I was that he came to live with us. I mentioned your name and immediately his tail wagged enthusiastically. I knew he remembers well his friend.
He does not like to have his collar taken off even when he takes a bath. I can only image that you told him that his collar was important and he should never lose it. :)
