Toby came to rescue from a home that loved him very much and his behavior certainly reflects this. Born in July of 2003, Toby is still very puppy-like. Unfortunately, his original owners were an older couple, fresh into retirement and Toby did not fit into their plans for travel. Their family had no desire to care for him, so he was sent to us to (hopefully) find a new home for him.

During the time he's been in foster care, Toby has shown himself to be very loving and fond of attention. He often sits up and waves his front paws at anyone who he thinks should be paying attention to him. He's an active little boy who loves playing with his foster brothers and sisters (at least, those who are young enough to keep up with him), so we believe he'll do best with a companion close to his own age.

While we have no real reason to suspect that Toby will not do well with children, it has been noted that teens and young adults seem to make him nervous. This may be due to the fact that his previous family was an older couple.

Toby is current on all his vaccines through August of 2008. He's been implanted with a microchip which you will need to register as a condition of his adoption. He'll come with his crate, his food bowl, his toys and a copy of "Dachshunds for Dummies", all at the request of his previous owner.
